THE BBC is making it even easier to access its huge list of digital radio, music and podcasts without needing to faff around with your smartphone. BBC Sounds is launching its first integrated in-car app for selected motors - with plans to add more in future.

Until now, the only way to listen to BBC Sounds in your car was via Android Auto, Apple CarPlay or Bluetooth. But this latest development means drivers can use it directly from their in-car entertainment system instead. They will still need an internet connection to benefit.

The in-car BBC Sounds app will come to newer cars first, starting with BMW and MINI. "People love to listen to the BBC when they’re in the car – it's a huge part of how people interact with the BBC, and drivetime shows are still some of the most popular radio we make," explained Storm Fagan, chief product officer at the BBC.

"But as technology in cars gets better, drivers have far more entertainment options. "By launching this dedicated in-car app, we’re able to give drivers the full BBC Sounds experience – enabling them to listen to all their favourite podcasts, music mixes and, of course, live radio while they’re behind the wheel more easily than ever before.".

The in-car BBC Sounds app can be found within the vehicle’s app stores, which are subscription-based for BMW (Digital Premium) and MINI (Connected Package). Motorists can continue to use Bluetooth via their phone too. See the full list of eligible models below:.
