We've all been there - you're craving your brew, pour the boiling water and suddenly tea disaster strikes. Unexpectedly, you're met with a swarm of unsightly limescale stains ruining your eagerly anticipated tea or coffee. But fear not, thrifty solution-seekers, there's a ridiculously easy way to sort it that won't see your money go down the drain.

The dreaded white, chalky build-up attacking our beloved kettles and other appliances such as coffee makers and washing-dish machines can be a right pain. Left unchecked, not only does limescale ruin your hot bevvy, but it also eats away at the inner workings of your kettle, shortening its hearty life.

It doesn't just stop there - those pesky deposits are energy guzzlers too, making your kettle boil slower, hog more electricity and, ironically, cost you more money. Not one to throw in the towel, Beth Clarke turned to renowned cleaning wizard Mrs Hinch on her Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook group for a lifeline.

Desperate for a kettle-cleaning miracle, she pleaded: "I need kettle descale ideas please. I've tried (descaler) Oust, lemons and lemon juice. None of which are tough enough for the job. They remove about 50 per cent, if that. I use my kettle a lot so any suggestions to keep the limescale to a minimum would be great too.".

Cash-conscious Brits are ditching expensive chemical descalers for their kettles in favour of budget-friendly, natural methods -and the results are just as sparkling. Cleaning buffs sworn by Mrs Hinch's methods are now all over citric acid for a quick descaling fix.
