Brits love their cuppa so much that not offering a brew to a visitor is almost a cardinal sin. But as much as we adore our tea, it does come with a downside: stained mugs. Tea's high tannin content, a brown dye, means that brewing several cups in the same mug can leave behind tough-to-remove brown stains, relegating your once-favourite mug to the back of the cupboard, never to be seen by guests.

But fear not, there's a simple solution that could save your mug from being banished to the charity shop pile. A dynamic duo of baking soda and vinegar has been hailed as a miracle cleaner, capable of tackling everything from blocked drains to those pesky tea stains.

The money-saving gurus over at the Facebook page My Financial Society have shared an easy tip to get your mugs looking spotless: "Just get white vinegar or baking soda. It's cheap, effective and simple. My mum likes to add one tablespoon of baking soda and white vinegar and let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with hot water. It cleans heavily stained mugs effortlessly.".

Baking soda, with its mildly abrasive and odour reducing properties, can gently dissolve dirt and grease without damaging the surface you're cleaning - it's even safe to use on paint. When combined with vinegar's acidic nature, the alkaline baking soda becomes a potent cleaning tool.
