The Premier League have confirmed that Pedro Neto's goal for Chelsea stood against West Ham because there was "no factual evidence" to overturn it. The Blues had found themselves behind through Jarrod Bowen's goal at Stamford Bridge, but Enzo Maresca's side rallied as substitute Neto fired home on the rebound. It took a long time for his strike to be confirmed however. That's because VAR had to check for a touch from Marc Guiu in an aerial challenge with Max Kilman. A touch from the Spanish youngster would have ruled Marc Cucurella offside - something which had been missed by the on-field officials. But after a number of viewings, there was not enough evidence to prove whether Guiu had managed to touch the ball before it fell to Cucurella.

As such, those at Stockley Park had no other alternative than to go with the on-field decision and give the goal on one of the rare occasions where an offside decision wasn't simply clear cut. A statement from the Premier League read: "The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by the VAR as there was no factual evidence that Guiu made contact with the ball in the build-up, therefore there was no offside offence.".

There was also a second issue for VAR to examine in the build up to the goal as West Ham captain Bowen claimed he was fouled by Levi Colwill on the halfway line. But that claim was waved away, with it declared tha the incident was not in the same attacking phase anyway. That decision did not go down particularly well with Manchester United icon Gary Neville however. Speaking on commentary, he said: "I think Levi Colwill fouled Jarrod Bowen, he just stepped across him. It was an obvious foul.".

Fans appeared to grow disgruntled with how long it took to reach the decision to give the goal, with some supporters chanting "we want our football back" as they waited for an announcement. And West Ham will have been left even angrier at the VAR call as they fell behind shortly after. Should Pedro Neto's goal vs West Ham have stood? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Cole Palmer completed the turnaround for the hosts as his cross was deflected into the back of the net by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Chelsea will be hoping they enjoy the same fortune over the coming weeks. They at first take on Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round next weekend before another clash with the Seagulls, this time in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Graham Potter will be hoping to get the Hammers back to winning ways. They face Brentford in just under a fortnight's time ahead of a clash with Arsenal.
