The owner of a ferocious XL Bully that mauled a dog walker to death as he tried to protect his puppy finally faced justice today. Christopher Bell was today jailed for three years after admitting being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control when it killed Ian Langley. 54.

A Mirror investigation found that local residents had warned police about previous attacks by Bell's XL Bully dog Titan. Two attacks on other dogs by Titan were outlined to the court and taken into consideration in sentencing. Mr Langley had thrown two stones at the windows of Bell's home in the moments before he died for reasons which were 'unknown', Newcastle crown court heard.

One witness described a window being broken which prompted Bell to come out of the house and give chase, barefoot. His two XL dogs came out after him and chased Mr Langley, with Titan catching up with him after 100m. It pulled him down to the ground and grabbed his neck, locking into the jugular vein, causing catastrophic blood loss which caused his death.ol'. Named Titan, it killed Bell's neighbour Ian Langley in a horrific attack in Shiney Row near Sunderland in Oct, 2023. Horrified eyewitnesses told how Ian bent down to protect his puppy Patterdale Terrier pup Bow. His pet escaped but Ian died after Titan pounced to wrap his jaws around his neck.

Neighbours told how the dad-of-one staggered from the scene with blood pouring from his wounds. Paramedics swiftly arrived and fought to save his life. But he had suffered catastrophic injuries and died in hospital following the attack near his home. A Mirror investigation revealed police had been warned about the danger posed by the 'out of control' dog in the months leading up to the attack.
