Call The Midwife made a triumphant return to BBC One with the first half of a festive special, featuring Helen George reprising her role as Trixie Aylward and assisting with Nonnatus House's Christmas celebrations. Meanwhile, Fred Buckle, played by Cliff Parisi, donned the Santa suit, distributing presents to hospitalised children over the holiday season.

In another storyline, Reggie (portrayed by Daniel Laurie) had been away and was counting on Fred to collect him from the bus station. However, due to traffic chaos caused by a prison break-out, Fred was delayed, leaving Reggie stranded. By the time Fred finally arrived at the station, Reggie had decided to catch a bus home but ended up far from Poplar. With no clue about his whereabouts, a distressed Fred could be heard calling out for Reggie.

Viewers confessed to being moved to tears just minutes into the episode after seeing Reggie's predicament. On X, previously known as Twitter, @sophemma_xoxo posted: "Reggie has me going already and it's only been four minutes #CallTheMidwife", accompanied by a crying emoji.

@DebbieBlackma14 chimed in with: "Six minutes in and they already have me terrified for Teddy and crying over Reggie #CallTheMidwife.". Teddy had been battling a curable illness in the hospital. @MissRudiBlue expressed her concern, tweeting: "Why is Teddy in hospital? If something happens to him, I will RIOT! Same for Reggie.".
