Callan Rydz embraced chants about his hair at the World Darts Championship as he thanked the Alexandra Palace crowd for spurring him on. Rydz progressed to the quarter-finals, where he'll face Michael van Gerwen, on Monday (December 30) as he fought back to beat Welshman Rob Owen 4-3. During the afternoon session contest, his barnet came into focus.

Not only did the resident Ally Pally wasp land on it, but the Geordie star also faced chants referencing his "s*** hair". He took it all in good humour, saying in his post-match press conference: "They can say what they say, I'll not cry about it. "I've had worse off loads of people back home. My best friends, they rip the mick out of us all the time. The crowd won me that game, I didn't win it.

"I'm all for the banter - I can give it them just as much as they can give it me, if I meet them individually. I love the banter with them and I think they won me this game, I didn't win it through darts, so I've got to thank them.". He also corrected a chant mix-up, saying (via the Express): "They were saying Man United but I'm a Newcastle fan! No thank you very much to everyone.".

Rydz then paid tribute to his late grandmother, revealing: "I saw a photo this week of me celebrating Christmas with my grandma who I lost and it really hurt, so this is for her.". A less than stellar performance on the doubles from Owen, experiencing his first fourth-round match in the tournament, gave Rydz the opening to wrap up a 4-3 triumph with a double 10 - which he nailed. He wasn't all too happy with his performance, despite climbing up to a 97 average.
