If you fancied snapping up the cheapest house in the UK's most affordable area, you now can - for a bargain price of just £50,000. The quiet town of Shildon, located just outside the bustling North-East city of Durham has been crowned the most affordable place to buy in Britain. A study, carried out by Zoopla, found that the price of the average home was £73,200. But a two-bedroom, semi-detached house has now hit the market for £23,000 less than the average house price reports Luxury Property News.

There are other cut price properties available for just £40,000 - but they're listed as an auction, meaning this is likely the starting bid amount. But the property, however, is a regular chain-free sale - and it requires absolutely no renovation work, as is usually the case with low price houses.

The compact property boasts a spacious entrance hall, living room complete with electric fireplace and a reasonably sized kitchen. Each room, including the bedrooms, has been fitted with new grey carpet and the walls appear to have had a fresh lick of paint.

However the family bathroom may require some TLC, but already hosts all washroom amenities. And with on-street parking and the freehold included, this property is an absolute steal. Just a stone's throw away from local facilities and schools, as well as transport links into the city, it's perfect for a young couple or family.

The property, which is on the market for £50,000 is listed with Robinsons estate agents, Bishop Auckland. It comes as the latest data from the UK land registry shows house prices rose by 2.8% in the year to August 2024, up from the revised estimate of 1.8% in the 12 months to July 2024.
