Chelsea are being linked with a deal to bring in Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus and they could use defender Renato Veiga in a part-swap deal. Enzo Maresca, speaking before Monday night’s win against Wolves, called on his wingers to put their scoring boots on and ease the burden on Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson.

But with Jackson’s finishing veering from sublime to baffling, Chelsea could still add a new centre-forward. And Vlahovic, the Serbia international who has been linked with Arsenal for years, may be top of their list. Veiga, meanwhile, had been expected to leave the club this month having only arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer in a £12m deal from Basel. The Portugal international has made just a single Premier League start and Juve have let their interest known.

But Chelsea are looking for £29m and that could eat into what the Old Lady will demand for Vlahovic, whom they paid £66m for two years ago. Serie A’s best paid player, on an estimated £200,000 per week, has had a mixed time in Turin and Juve would be open to selling him should a sufficient amount of money be offered.

Chelsea will still likely need to sanction another departure to remain within profit and sustainability rules, with Christopher Nkunku keen on returning to the Bundesliga according to reports in Germany. The France forward has been unable to nail down a regular starting place under Enzo Maresca and Bayern Munich have made inquiries.
