The aftermath of the car crash in which four people died was so horrific police officers knocked on the doors of nearby houses to urge parents to not let their children witness the distressing scenes. As dawn broke yesterday officers went door to door to warn mums and dad in the neighbourhood just how bad the accident had been. Dozens of emergency workers arrived at the scene in Colchester, Essex following the incident.
One woman, who lives on Magdalen Street, told Mirror Online: “Officers knocked on doors to speak to people living next to the crash site. They told them to keep the curtains drawn as the recovery operation was so awful to see. “They didn’t want young children to be traumatised by the sight of the wreckage of the car being removed from the building. It was a massive and complicated operation to get the bodies and the car out of the second hand shop.
“The crash happened before 5am and when it was daylight over two hours later they were still working on the recovery. It was dreadful to see in such a quiet part of Colchester.”. Earlier Mirror Online reported the car was "left completely unrecognisable". Firefighters even had to build a temporary wooden platform just to free the bodies of the driver and three passengers from the wrecked car. The destroyed vehicle was embedded deep into the walls of a second-hand shop in Colchester, Essex. Eye-witnesses said the car had been travelling at “high speed” and “on the wrong side of the road” before the accident at 4.40am yesterday. Unconfirmed reports said the four dead were students - three men and one woman.
Mike Davies, 66, a builder from Colchester, said: “It’s my friend’s shop. Police told me the car was so badly damaged inside the building they couldn’t even tell what make or model it was. “They had to construct a temporary wooden platform to be able to take it out. They even had to bring in a JCB to help get it freed. The building is completely wrecked.”. Get email updates with the day's biggest stories.
