Coronation Street fans have spotted a glaring plot hole in the Platt house fire. During Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, No. 8 went up in flames in dramatic scenes as a mystery assailant put a lit rag through the letterbox, leaving lives in danger. After the Platts discovered their house was on fire, they tried to locate some of their missing loved ones, panicking that they could be inside.

Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) all then entered the burning building through the back door to try and find Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie). Nick was stunned to find girlfriend Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) inside and rushed her outside to safety. Unable to find Lily, Shona and Max then got trapped inside, with the back door they’d come through now stuck.

Confusingly, after Shona was one moment seen banging on it from the inside trying to escape, the next moment, she was outside in the garden, bashing it from the other side to try and get Max out. Many fans on social media questioned how Shona managed to get out, calling out the plot hole. ‘Did Shona just teleport out the back door?’ one person posted on X. Another said: ‘I’ve spent all day wondering how Shona managed to break out of the burning house without Max only for the back door to be shut tight when she tried to get back in.’.

A third wrote: ‘Shona with Max in her arms on one side of a closed door, and ending up on the outside of it, still closed and without Max, then trying to get back in and being unable to before running off will never make sense.’. A fourth branded it ‘a shambles’, saying: ‘I’m so disappointed in that fire and what unfolded at the end Shona walking through a lock door and the strangely locked back door.. I’ve known about this fire since before Christmas. I was hyped for it but it was a complete let down.. Shambles..[sic].‘.

One fan seemingly solved one part of the mystery, however, writing: ‘All these people complaining about Shona don’t understand how a house  fire works with the pressure build up. Which was released when David  opened the front door, making the back door slam shut. Well researched.’. However, many still questioned how Shona managed to get through the door. ‘Either Shona can teleport or they’ve badly edited it and cut out how she got out. There seems to be no quality control at #Corrie these days,’ one fan said.

Another wrote: ‘There’s no way Shona got out of the house that quick and didn’t even wait for Max to come back just leave him to fend for himself as the house blazes.’. Fears mounted for Max, who was still trapped inside the building at the end of the episode. Actor Paddy Bever, who plays Max, recently confirmed he is one of several stars leaving the soap in the coming months. ‘After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way,’ the 22-year-old said in a statement.

Talking to The Mirror, he added: ‘It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.’. Coronation Street continues on Tuesday at 8pm on ITV1 or stream now on ITVX.
