Cruise passengers have been issued a warning after a top travel guru flagged that a common slip-up could lead to them being barred from boarding. Travel guru Gary Bembridge has highlighted crucial changes for 2025 that cruisers should keep in mind before heading on holiday.
Guy said visitors hailing from the US, Australia, and New Zealand now need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) visa to enter the UK. This, he pointed out, will expand to include additional European countries starting April. But it's not just arrivals as Brits embarking abroad should brace for the upcoming Entry-Exit System (EES) shake-up. Speaking on his Tips for Travellers YouTube channel, he warned: "Through 2024 the number of people being denied boarding due to not having the right travel documents and visas increased significantly, and this is likely to get worse in 2025 due to some major changes being made.
"Some could even prevent you from getting to your cruise in the first place. All cruise lines say by the way, it's up to us to get the right documents and visas.". Adding a stark warning, he added: "Without having the right ones at check-in, they will deny us boarding. And so your risk of doing that in 2025 has grown.".
UK holidaymakers heading to Europe will soon need to sign up for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) starting this year before they can visit Schengen zones. It will cost around £6 and entails registering details including biometric data like fingerprints or a snapshot, according to Gov.uk.
