Steve's exit, however, appears to have been a welcome relief to the gold medal winning Olympian - who admits he regrets surviving longer on the show that more accomplished stars.
He told The Sun: "I was absolutely delighted when the public voted to keep me in after show one and show two.
Steve was paired with professional ice skater Vicky Ogden, 40, and viewers saw her slowly build up the retired rower's confidence in the rink.
But it appeared the stars were no aligned for the dup and they became the third couple to be voted off the show as the results came in on Sunday night.
