January 31 marks exactly 5 years since the UK left the EU, ending a 47-year relationship with the political and economic bloc - but do you think Brexit has been a success for the UK?. Rachel Reeves has previously blasted the Tories' Brexit deal, saying it 'reduced trade flows' between Britain and Europe. Similarly, Starmer has also criticised Boris Johnson's botched deal to leave the EU, stating it hampered the UK's ability to tackle the small boats crisis.

The Government has now committed to repairing the 'fractured' relationship with their nearest neighbours. This week, the Chancellor said the UK is 'absolutely happy' to look at joining a tariff-free trading scheme, while also reaffirming the UK's 'red lines' regarding EU membership. Labour has already dismissed the idea of re-joining the customs union or single market but is committed to fostering a closer relationship with Brussels in pursuit of a "reset" in UK-EU ties. Reeves said: "It’s not working well enough for small businesses trying to export, it’s not working well enough for larger businesses either.

"We’re grown-ups who admit that, whereas the previous government said there were no problems at all. And where there are constructive ideas we are happy to look at those, as long as they’re consistent with the red lines we set out in our manifesto.". If you can't see the poll, click here. On Wednesday, a YouGov poll revealed that just 30% of Brits believe it was right to leave the EU, with 55% believing Brexit was wrong and just 11% seeing it as more of a success than a failure. The survey also revealed that one in six leave voters now say it was the wrong choice, marking the lowest public belief in Brexit since YouGov began asking after the 2020 referendum.

In response to Rachel Reeves' slamming of the Tories' Brexit deal, Mirror readers mostly agreed with the Chancellor comments. Kemper said: "Johnson's deal with the EU was anti-business. We were promised better prospects, less red tape, cheap clothes and food. It is anything but and small business have been sold out. "Labour need to develop better relations and repair some of the damage, if we want to improve the economy. ".

Midchester UTD said: "The country is stronger in Europe than out. Get it sorted." While MaximeRoche went one step further, writing: "I want to Rejoin. As a full EU member. Or through the back door. I don’t care. No second referendum. Just do it.". What do you think? 5 years on from Brexit, has leaving the EU has been a success? Take our poll and have your say in the comments below.
