President Donald Trump has brutally mocked MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow - predicting she will soon be out of a job. The 78-year-old American president is just days into his official position as leader of the free world and has taken aim at a variety of individuals since being sworn in last Monday. And he has targeted 'mainstream' news outlets - predicting that the likes of both MSNBC and CNN will soon be out of business.
In the weeks following Trump's 2024 election win, both CNN and MSNBC haemorrhaged viewership - while rival network Fox News saw a ratings boost up to December 31. And 51-year-old Rachel, who has hosted The Rachel Maddow Show since it debuted in 2008, has suffered a ratings decline in more recent weeks.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that MSNBC were bringing back Rachel's show to trail the work of President Trump after he was sworn in, with her prime-time show five nights a week at 9pm. But the President has claimed that the ratings have not held up - and even branded the host an "enemy of the people".
Taking to Truth Social on Saturday, the 47th wrote: "Wow! Rachel Maddow has horrible ratings. She'll be off the air very soon. MSNBC IS CLOSE TO DEATH." And turning on another news outlet, the president went on: "CNN HAS REACHED THE BOTTOM. This is a good thing. They are the Enemy of the people!" The Mirror has contacted representatives of Rachel Maddow and MSNBC for comment.
