On Thursday night, Dragons’ Den welcomes guest Dragon Trinny Woodall. Rightfully earning her place on the line-up, Trinny is a beauty entrepreneur who founded her brand Trinny London in 2017, all from her kitchen table. The brand is now one of Europe’s fastest growing beauty brands after Trinny’s mission to offer effortless, personalised beauty to people of all ages. Trinny London started off by launching with a line of stackable cream-based, multi tasking pots and they have since expanded to more make-up and skincare. The business has since launched into a global brand, selling in 180 countries worldwide. Not only that, the brand has stores in Australia, Ireland and the UK.
Unbeknownst to Sarah Jane, her nickname of Trinny which was given to her after cutting off a girls’ plait at school stuck and became a global brand. In fact, the name was given to her by family friend and director of the St Trinian’s film Frank Launder who likened her to a character in the movie. Dragons’ Den viewers may however, recognise the star from another BBC show. Trinny and her friend Susannah Constantine became well renowned fashion experts, leading to their own show.
The iconic duo presented their BBC BAFTA Award nominated makeover reality show, What Not to Wear. The show launched in 2001 and the pair presented it for five series. During the show, Trinny and Susannah would help improve the countries dress sense. This also included Jeremy Clarkson who appeared as a surprise guest in the second season. After his fashion makeover with the two, the former Top Gear star said that he would ‘rather eat his own hair’ than shop with the duo again.
The star has been through a lot in her personal life, losing her ex-husband Johnny Elichaoff after he took his own life. The pair tied the knot in 1999 before getting divorced a decade later in 2009, however remained friends. They also share daughter Lyla. In 2014, the former businessman and touring drummer for U2 passed away after taking his own life in a shopping mall. Last year, Trinny took to social media to pay tribute to her former husband, a decade after his tragic death. “It's been 10 years since Jonny left us. When I look back now and choose these images to reflect Jonny, I just feel very sad that he is no longer in our lives,” she penned. “At his best there was no one better, funnier, more caring, more loving, more supportive, more generous of heart. I so miss the best of him, but I’m also so grateful that I see that every day reflected in Lyla and Zak.
“It takes time to heal from the tragic consequences of death. But we can heal, and the joy of memories is that we can be left with the best ones….” she emotionally concluded. Susannah penned an emotional comment on the post, writing: “The best father. The best of friends. Think about him everyday. A part of him is still here. Love you darling xxx”. Like this story?
