Dragons' Den viewers were left shocked by an 'uncomfortable' proposition from Touker Suleyman for a haircare line developed by a young entrepreneur. During a recent epsiode of the BBC hit show, the Dragons were joined by Lucie Macleod, 24,who created a Hair Syrup brand while trying to cut down on haircare expenses during her university years. Lucie’s business is now expected to generate £6,500,000 in 2025. The dragons were initially taken aback by the significant growth the business had experienced since 2019 when she started selling her serums via TikTok.
However, it soon became apparent that the young entrepreneur was struggling with the business aspects, leading Deborah Meaden and guest dragon Trinny Woodall to withdraw their interest. Then Touker made an unconventional offer: He would invest the requested £190,000 for a 3% stake, provided he recoups his investment within three months. In exchange for his mentorship, he would retain his stake in the company indefinitely. When asked why she was seeking their help, Lucie responded: “I want someone to grow with me and help me to not make mistakes I probably am going to make without someone.”.
Despite having earned a considerable fortune herself, becoming a multimillionaire thanks to Hair Syrup, she confessed that all she 'wanted or needed' was 'mentorship'. Touker's proposal even caught the attention of the other Dragons, who urged Lucie to carefully consider this offer. Steven Bartlett exclaimed “What?” in disbelief when the Hair Syrup founder initially agreed to the mentorship terms.
Deborah clarified: “You're basically giving away those shares. I just need you to be really clear and understand.” In a surprising turn of events, Lucie accepted the deal, leaving the other Dragons and viewers in shock. However, seeing their concerned expressions made her question her decision, admitting she was now “nervous.”. It didn’t take long for viewers to share their reaction to the moment online as they criticised Touker's offer and claimed it was 'shady' and 'horrifically uncomfortable' to watch.
One fan wrote on X, formally known as Twitter: “What a rotten deal lol basically just taking 3% for nothing.” Another labelled it the “most greediest offer Touker has ever made”. “What have I just watched,” queried another, with a fourth adding: “That was horrifically uncomfortable viewing.”. On the show, Deborah asked Lucie if she understood she was 'giving away' 3% of her business for free, which seemed to confuse the entrepreneur.
After witnessing the reactions of his fellow dragons, Touker withdrew his offer, stating he didn't want her to feel like he had 'tried to trick' her. “I tell you what Lucie,” he continued. “I can feel you're uncomfortable and I don't want to take away 3% for nothing from your business so I'm out.”. Both Dragons and viewers breathed a sigh of relief when the deal fell through, with one viewer saying: “That's a very shady deal from Touker glad she didn't take it.”.
