EastEnders has spoken out against scammers in an official statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Please note that no cast member or EastEnders employee will ever make contact to request money for meetings, messages, set visits or any other interactions,” the BBC show wrote, amid a slew of celebrity impersonators trying to scam fans out of cash.
“If you have been contacted, especially on social media platforms via a direct message or mass message posted to a group, please ensure you report these instances to the relevant platform immediately.”. Replying to the clear statement, one fan wrote: “It’s a sad day all round when you have to put a message like this on social media , it means that people have already been caught out and that there are some really horrible people out there - hopefully people will heed the warning - Thankyou.”.
“Exactly people...if anyone asks for money online or by phone, letter, email from you to help them out DONT give it to them...it's your money, do not give your money away, do not give your money away,” a second agreed. Many soap fans also pointed out that they’d seen a similar message from the ITV soaps just days ago. “This is a warning about scamming as I saw Corrie and Emmerdale posting their similar message on their accounts,” one person said, as a second shared: “Was wondering when you guys would put out this similar message to ITV soaps. Thank you for the warning.”.
