Ellen DeGeneres snuggled up to wife Portia de Rossi on Friday as they stepped out to celebrate the Ally McBeal star's 52nd birthday at the Chiltern Firehouse in London. The couple, who emigrated to the UK from the United States last year in protest at Donald Trump's election win, looked in good spirits as they braved the cold winter weather during the outing. Dressed in a navy jacket and showing off her fairly new brunette locks, Ellen, 67, clutched onto to Portia as they made their way to the celebrity hotspot.
The retired comedian added a black jumper, jeans and white trainers to her casual look. Meanwhile, birthday girl Portia, 52, cut a somewhat more glamorous figure, opting for an eye-catching taupe three-piece ensemble. The Australian-American beauty rocked a wool-look shirt and trousers combo, which she teamed with a matching coat and long black boots. The couple, who emigrated to the UK from the United States last year in protest at Donald Trump 's election win, looked in good spirits as they braved the cold winter weather during the outing. The happy couple - who live around 100 miles away in the Cotswolds - couldn't keep the smiles off their faces as they left their hair down ahead of the weekend after seemingly settling into UK life. It comes just weeks after Ellen was spotted back in the US after vowing to 'leave for good' amid Trump's victory in November.
The couple moved to the UK late last year but it is obvious they still have roots in the US and more specifically Montecito. DeGeneres was snapped at her old stomping grounds last month while visiting Casa Dorinda, an elite retirement community known as the luxury care home where Julia Child spent her final days among other famous folks. It's not known who the Hollywood star was visiting at the home, but it's possible her wife's mother, Margaret Rogers, may have moved to the lux retirement community after she sold her Westlake Village townhome in 2020.
Ellen and Portia now live in the Cotswolds, a rural portion of Southwest England located about 100 miles from London, in a multimillion-pound farmhouse. They are said to have 'fallen in love' with the picturesque estate set in acres of rolling Cotswolds countryside which also includes a helicopter pad and swimming pool. The two were apparently so eager to make a quick getaway and land their dream property that they were prepared to pay £2.5million (around $3million) more than the asking price.

The happy couple - who live around 100 miles away in the Cotswolds - couldn't keep the smiles off their faces as they left their hair down ahead of the weekend after seemingly settling into UK life. Their home was originally built as a farmhouse, and converted 15 years ago into a modern luxury home with six bedrooms and four bathrooms. The house includes a gym, games rooms and separate offices with a one-bedroom cottage and five-bay garage in its grounds. But it is still said to retain its old-world charm, with outlying barns connected to the main building via glazed passageways.
The area is popular among celebrities and wealthy residents looking to escape the hustle and bustle of London - an ideal hideaway for DeGeneres and Rossi who famously left LA for Santa Barbara County's Montecito, 75 miles north. Among the stars with properties in the Cotswolds are David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson, and Damien Hirst, and many others.
The area is even home to royalty, as King Charles owns Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Just weeks ago, however, the couple were left virtually marooned when the area near their 43-acre property became swamped in a torrent of flood water following the impact of Storm Bert. DeGeneres later shared a selfie on Instagram of her and her wife posing in the countryside to mark 20 years together with her 'best friend' and 'love of my life', and confirmed they did not suffer any damage from the storm.
After Trump's win the married couple became 'very disillusioned,' and one source claimed the vowed to 'to get the hell out' of the US afterward (Trump pictured on November 1 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin). In an Instagram post in December, DeGeneres and de Rossi were seen posing in the English countryside as they marked 20 years together. The talk show host confirmed their new farmhouse did not suffer any damage from Storm Bert which brought major flooding to the UK in November.
