Ellen DeGeneres turned her back on the US before Donald Trump could be sworn in as President – again. The 66-year-old presenter moved away from America with her wife, Portia de Rossi, after several celebrities expressed a desire to leave due to their disagreements with Trump's policies. Ellen and Portia are said to have chosen rural England as their new home and settle in the picturesque Cotswolds and "won't be looking back.".
Ellen and Portia had previously lived in Montecito, California, boasting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as neighbours. However, following Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election, in which he won, they rapidly made the decision to flee the States.
Just one month before Trump was announced as President Elect, the couple purchased their stunning home in the Cotswolds. In the run-up to the election, many celebrities including Cardi B, Lili Reinhart and Christina Applegate hit out at the former reality star turned President for his concerning beliefs. Trump became the first President in history to be impeached twice. Controversies included countless falsehoods, links with Russia, possible obstruction of justice, alleged payments to a porn star, separating immigrant families, and allegations of golden showers. His response to the coronavirus pandemic was also slated.
Since moving over to the UK, Ellen appears to have settled right in and has even discovered her own local pub. Owned by none other than Jeremy Clarkson. "She lives in the village where our pub is. Absolutely I welcome them all," said Jeremy. "Everyone said she has been cancelled but she seemed nice when she came to the pub, the staff said she was very friendly and lovely. I am not going to believe what I read online. She seemed lovely.".
