F1 driver contract lengths including Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari deal and Max Verstappen

Another Formula 1 campaign looms, and so another driver contract silly season awaits. The 2025 campaign will do well to live up to its predecessor in that regard, thanks largely to Lewis Hamilton, who kicked things off in 2024 by announcing his plan to quit Mercedes to join rivals Ferrari. From that point on, the driver market was in overdrive.
The grid for the coming season was only actually finally set last month, when Red Bull announced Sergio Perez had been shown the door. Liam Lawson has been promoted from the junior team to replace him while Formula 2 runner-up Isack Hadjar is now one of several rookies who will get their first tastes of F1 action.
The upshot of all the upheaval is that there are plenty of drivers just starting on new contracts this month. Still, though, there are plenty who have work to do to earn a renewal for 2026 and beyond. Mirror Sport takes a look at when the deals of all 20 current F1 drivers expire.
Norris previously had a deal with McLaren until the end of 2025 and when he penned fresh terms last January it was announced by the team as a "multi-year" extension. That means the Brit has signed up to race in Papaya until at least 2027, though the terms of his contract may actually run beyond that.
An impressive debut campaign saw McLaren move quickly to secure the future of their other young gem. Piastri still had several months of that maiden F1 season to go when he was offered, and accepted, a new deal which guarantees his place with the constructors' champions until at least the end of 2026. He was excellent in his sophomore season too and another strong showing in 2025 will surely see McLaren act to lengthen his stay again.
