The ex-Brazil international bade an emotional farewell to Shanghai Port following eight years in China where he earned an estimated £166m in wages.
And while many foreign stars jumped ship when the league suffered its bust, Oscar stayed put earning a salary widely reported to have been worth £400,000 per week.
Now he is heading back to Sao Paulo at the end of his Shanghai contract and his hometown club, whom he began his career with, are hailing him as a “super reinforcement.”.
Yet the return is bittersweet for Oscar who said: "Today officially marks the end of a chapter that has profoundly influenced my life," he said.
