FRY-UP fans are favouring gravy over brown sauce with their full English breakfast, a survey found. More than ten per cent say the meaty liquid is essential for their cooked brekkie, compared with just seven per cent preferring traditional HP Sauce. Ketchup is still the favourite condiment for 25 per cent of Brits, while sweet chilli sauce and horseradish are top for 14 per cent.

Hotel chain Best Western found 12 per cent want mayonnaise with a fry-up. Eleven per cent now opt for gravy — surprisingly leaving brown sauce as the least popular condiment. It even falls behind hot honey — the top choice of eight per cent. Fried eggs are also falling out of favour, as 22 per cent would never have them for breakfast — while 21 per cent prefer scrambled tofu.

The survey found that a fry-up is still a popular meal for many, with 41 per cent having a full English at least once a week. Ten per cent of Brits have breakfast at their desk — while six per cent admit to eating it on the loo. The survey of 2,000 people came as Best Western launched a free breakfast offer.
