Spotted tiny teethmarks in your salad crops? Sick of your winter blooms being munched on by pesky critters? Well, it turns out there's a simple solution to protect your plants this winter without breaking the bank. In fact, this foolproof hack will only set you back £1 and takes seconds to sort. It really is an impossible job to get rid of garden pests like rats, slugs, and squirrels without dousing your green spaces in fancy repellents often riddled with chemicals. While these expensive products might work, they risk killing your favourite flowers and turning your greenhouse into a toxic-filled site.

If you have children or pets, these types of deterrents are probably not the best for your garden. Luckily, experts over at Stonyfield Organic says there are a bunch of natural ways to keep unwanted visitors away while keeping your green space organic. One of the best hacks includes a 'magical' spice you may already have in your kitchen cupboards.

"Every few days, sprinkle about ¼ cup of cayenne pepper throughout your garden," the aces recommend. "It gets washed away by rain and blows with the wind so it does need to be replenished, but you can buy it inexpensively, and it often solves the problem of unwanted visitors overnight. [There'll be] no more teeth-marks on your kale if you sprinkle this magical red dust around.".

The pros also hailed Marigolds for keeping pests away. The colourful flowers are great for attracting the right kind of animals, like bees who are attracted to the vivid hues of red and orange, but they also make great mini fences. "Try planting them all along the border of your garden as a type of 'no trespassing' barricade for bugs and creatures," Stonyfield Organic added.
