Harry Maguire is set for a Manchester United stay after revealing “positive” talks with club chiefs. The Red Devils defender has just six months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford and would be free to talk to interested clubs as soon as next month. There is a club option in his deal to extend his deal by a further season.
But Maguire, 31, has offered an update on his future. And while he has not confirmed whether he will stay, he did reveal conversations have been held. Speaking after the weekend’s win against Manchester City, he said: "Listen, I haven't really thought about it. I've still got this year to go, with an option in their hands.
"But, yeah, talks are ongoing and all the signs are positive at the moment. The chat that I'm having is really positive.". Should Maguire pen a new deal, it would signal a dramatic turnaround in fortunes. The England defender dropped down the pecking order under former boss Erik ten Hag, even losing the club captaincy.
The defender has been keen to leave the club in the past two summers. He was close to a move to West Ham in 2023 but a deal could not be agreed between the two clubs. But Maguire has enjoyed a renaissance under new boss Ruben Amorim. He shone during the Red Devils’ surprise win against Man City having been handed a starting berth.
