A performance artist who has been on every single bus route in Greater London has revealed which journey ‘sent shivers down his spine’. Dani Marcel, 32, said he wanted to ride on every route to explore places he had never seen before. He began his journey on December 5 2023, and spent 76 days sitting on different buses.
But not every journey was a beautiful artistic journey, with Dani claiming he was taken on some very ‘ghoulish’ roads. He told Metro: ‘The final bus route number – the 499 to Gallows Corner in Romford, east London – had a very strange vibe. ‘It obviously goes straight to where the gallows used to be, and you can sense that in a quite journey.’.
He described the roads as ‘unusually dark’, adding there was an eerie vibe while travelling down the historic streets. He said he felt like he was being ‘watched’. The gallows, which were mainly used in the 16th and 17th centuries, were thought to be where a stretch of grass now sits below Masefield Crescent.
I took all the buses in London a year ago. I wanted to leave the city but couldn’t, so I decided to see it all instead.. #london #bus #tfl @Transport for London. Many executed prisoners now lie buried in the area, with the small jail where they were held before their execution now replaced with a school.
