Huermann, 61, was charged with the death of Valerie Mack, whose remains were found 24 years ago, said a superseding indictment unsealed today.
Heuermann was linked to Mack's death via DNA analysis of female hair found on Mack's body.
Mack's parents said they were "very grateful for the small bit of closure," Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said at press briefing today.
Heuermann has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with Mack's death.
