British natural health and beauty brand Neal’s Yard Remedies launched its Frankincense Intense range in 2013. It was reformulated in September, when plant-based actives were added to increase its anti-ageing efficacy. It smells divine and is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines. The frankincense is hand-tapped from trees and distilled in Oman, generating income for locals. The Dorset factory uses solar panels, energy-efficient air management, rainwater and grey-water recycling. The brand’s beauty products were the first to be organically certified in the UK, it became carbon neutral in 2008 and was the first beauty brand rated 100/100 by The Ethical Company Organisation.
. The frankincense oil used in Age-Defying Cream has to be imported from Oman – but it is shipped as sea freight. The brand has replaced printed information leaflets with QR codes for digital ones, saving 860kg of paper a year. In 2016 it lobbied the UK government to get microbeads banned. Now lobbying for a ban on bee-killing pesticides, it supports biodiversity initiatives with its Stand By Bees campaign.
