The husband of a woman who was found dead in the Yorkshire Dales more than 20 years ago is set to return to the UK to clear his name - after he was tracked down by police in Thailand and detained. Thai officials are now preparing to revoke the visa of David Armitage, 62, who is currently being held in Bangkok under a Blue Notice – an international order that allows police to gather information on a person suspected of a crime. The half-naked body of his Thai wife, Lamduan, was discovered by a group of walkers in a Yorkshire Dales stream on September 20, 2004.

For 15 years, her idenitity remained unknown and she was dubbed the 'Lady of the Hills' until her family spotted her in a BBC news report and came forward to police. Armitage, who has been living in Thailand since her death, failed to report the mum-of-three missing at the time - and managed to dodge questioning by Thai or British police about her whereabouts.

But a source claims Armitage is set to return to the UK in a bid to clear his name after years of accusations by Lamduan’s family that he was involved in her death, the Sun reports. The university lecturer was reportedly nudged to make the return by his Thai girlfriend and his teacher son George, 32.

A source said: “George is obviously aware of everything that has happened over the last few years and everything that has been said - as is David's Thai girlfriend. They have persuaded him to go back to the UK to clear his name. He is free to go anywhere when he leaves Thailand, but in reality he only has one option– back to Britain. He had the choice of appealing against the decision to revoke his visa within 48 hours but he did not take it.”.
