Despite working in the beauty industry, my hair mostly looks limp, lifeless and a little greasy for about five days out of each week. The problem is I have long hair (made long with tape extensions, I'll add) so the whole washing and drying process is lengthy. But I also have extremely greasy roots that want to be washed almost every day to stay looking fresh. So with my roots feeling oily mere hours after washing, but my ends staying dry, split and generally lifeless, I’d resigned myself to daily hair-washing sessions and an ever-growing collection of dry shampoos. That is until I found L'Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Sulphate Free Shampoo, now £23.85 for 300ml.
To be completely honest, I didn’t have high hopes at first, but when my colourist recommended it after listening to me complaining about my hair predicament, I decided to take a bottle home to try it. She explained that it neutralises metals that build up in your hair from hard water and pollution, which I’d never considered before. Apparently, that build-up can make your hair greasier, duller and harder to manage over time. Sceptical but curious, I gave it a go—and wow, am I glad I did.
From the very first wash with this shampoo, my hair felt lighter, fresh and genuinely cleaner without being stripped or dry. But the real magic? I can now go up to three days without washing my hair. That’s right—three full days of soft, shiny, grease-free hair. For anyone who washes their hair once a week, this might still sound like a lot. But considering I was going one day before my roots became greasy, it's a real win.

Since I started using this shampoo, my hair feels completely transformed. I no longer dread washing it, and the extra time between washes has been a total game-changer for my routine. Sure, it’s a bit of an investment at £20 for a 300ml bottle, but a little goes a long way, and the results speak for themselves.
Also, you don't need to use this each time you wash. My hairstylist told me just once a week is enough to keep seeing its effects, so on my other wash days I alternate between using Kérastase Specifique Bain Divalent Shampoo, £28.25 (also worth the money, I promise) and Philip Kingsley Moisture Balancing Shampoo, £24. If you’ve been battling greasy hair and are ready to finally take control, give the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Metal Detox Shampoo a try. I can honestly say it’s been the one product that’s made me feel confident about my hair again.
