Seeing as it is the start of a new year, many people will be re-decorating their home. And one of the most 'controversial' DIY jobs around is painting your doors a different colour other than white. However, one home interiors fanatic has urged people not to be scared to think outside the box when it comes to the colour of your doors. Val, known as @thegroundedhome_ on Instagram, teaches people how to kit out their home with thrifted and second-hand items. The influencer, who boasts 20,600 followers on her account, has just moved in to her "dream 1920s home" and often shared content from her home makeover.
Val recently shared a reel where she was seen painting her doors grey, as she wrote: "Let this be your sign if you have all white doors in your home... to not be afraid to paint them a different colour this year.". The influencer showed off the results of her paint job, with her sophisticated grey doors seen at the end, which she accessorised with lack door knobs. Giving more details about the transformation in the caption, Val wrote: "We chose the colour 'Studio Clay SW 9172' by @sherwinwilliams in semi-gloss finish.".
She also gave a handy tip, saying: "Don't forget to prime your door first as well.". Talking about the transformation more, Val added: "I was so scared to paint our hallway doors last year, but so glad I did and so sad I waited so long now.". Fans were loving the new look of her doors, with the post racking up more than 43,000 likes. Many had a lot of questions, as one person asked: "Do you sand the door first?" Val replied: " I just primed it instead and that worked out great and used a mini foam roller to prevent drips.".
Another person added: "So many questions – did you do all doors? Both sides?" As Val said: "I just did one side for all the doors facing towards the hallway.". A third also chimed in: "Love this! I’ve heard the debate that door colour needs to match trim colour, but glad to see you kept your trim white because I like white trim with coloured doors but the naysayers had me conflicted.".
