Steven and Alex Gerrard are not the only young grandparents around, though respectively aged 44 and 42, they are pretty young to be called granddad and grandma. Laura Dockree, who is a self-confessed "glam gran", is a grandma to 18-month-old Kairo. She claims other parents constantly mistake her for her grandson's mum, remarking on her bleached blonde hair and youthful look. But Kairo is actually the son of her daughter Charlie, who she gave birth to when she was just 15-years-old.
While Laura is far from anyone’s idea of the stereotypical granny, she is in a good position to advise uber glam WAG and gran-to-be Alex Gerrard. Alex has four children with ex-Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard, 44 - including Lily-Ella, 20, Lexie, 18, Lourdes, 13, and Leo, eight.
And the couple saw it as a definite win, posting “can’t wait” on social media, when Lily announced earlier this month that she was pregnant with her boyfriend Lee Byrne, meaning Alex and Steven will, like Laura, be young grandparents. Mum-of-four Laura, who lives in St Albans with her toyboy husband James, 33, a barber, believes they have every reason to be excited. She confesses: “When I heard my daughter Charlie was pregnant I was beyond excited. But I did dread being called Nanny. I didn’t feel old enough to be one and the word carries all sorts of connotations of being old and grey. So, throughout the pregnancy, we called me Glam-Ma to get used to it.
“After Kairo was born, Charlie even made me a mug saying Hello Glam-Ma October 2023. But I can promise Alex that being a young granny is absolutely the best. It’s even more fun than having your own children. You love them as much, play with them and then get to give them back!”.
