As we approach the New Year, many of us will be setting our sights on a healthier lifestyle for 2025. If you're unsure about what to include in your shopping basket while trying to reduce calorie intake, don't worry. Personal trainer Alfie Evans has taken to TikTok to reveal a Marks and Spencer weekly shop that costs just £35 and promises to help you "drop that spare tyre".
While he admitted that "M&S isn't the cheapest," he insisted that their produce is "high quality," and it's possible to get a good, healthy shop there that supports eating in a calorie deficit. He suggested adding oats, wholemeal bread, and sweet potatoes to your trolley, stating: "They beat normal potatoes any day of the week".
Alfie went on to recommend picking up 12% fat beef mince, chicken breast, 0% fat Greek yoghurt, and eggs. These are lean protein sources, so they're low in calories and help maintain muscle mass. He also advised getting peanuts and 85% dark chocolate. These provide healthy fats to support hormone function, but they're calorie-dense, so portion control is key.
Next, Alfie suggested you should "grab lots of your favourite fruit and veg," as they have a "great volume to calorie ratio". This means they'll "keep you full for little calories". When it comes to seasoning, he said you can "take your pick" because they contain "f*** all calories". However, if you're opting for sauces, you need to be mindful of their calorie content.
