As the legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively rages on, the actor and director has now unearthed conversations he had with her husband, Ryan Reynolds. Lively and Baldoni worked together last year filming the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, It Ends With Us. The Jane the Virgin actor, 41, served as director and star of the romantic drama, while Gossip Girl star Lively, 37, played the leading lady.

In recent months, however, drama has made its way off the silver screen and into the courtroom, as A Simple Favor actress Lively first accused Baldoni of ‘repeated sexual harassment and other disturbing behaviour’ in December. After denying the damning allegations, Baldoni’s legal team filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit, suing both Lively and Deadpool icon Reynolds, as well as publicist Leslie Sloane and her PR firm, Vision PR Inc.

Refuting that he caused Lively ‘severe emotional distress,’ Baldoni is seeking damages of $400million (£323m) in his countersuit following her attempt to ‘destroy’ his reputation and career’. It has been claimed that Lively and Reynolds’ lawyers have filed a notice saying they wish to seek to dismiss Baldoni’s suit. In the latest development this weekend, Baldoni has published a website showing his updated court filings.

Titled Lawsuit Info, the site features two PDFs. One is his ‘Amended Complaint,’ which Baldoni and five other plaintiffs – including his production company, Wayfarer Studios – filed in response to Lively on January 16. The other is a 168-page ‘Timeline of Relevant Events,’ which recalls Baldoni’s version of happenings leading up to and following production on It Ends With Us, beginning with his first email exchange with Hoover in January 2019.

Baldoni, who is suing Lively for defamation and extortion, has included texts and various correspondences between himself and Lively in the document, which are now public for the first time to illustrate his arguments. He says the timeline aims to ‘[provide] a summarised account of the sequence of key events’ and is ‘intended to be read in conjunction’ with his complaint. An example of messages leaked is Baldoni and Lively’s discussion about rewriting a rooftop scene. Last August, Lively told E! News at the premiere that husband Reynolds wrote the ‘iconic’ section, adding to the publication: ‘Nobody knows that but you now.’.

In April 2023, Lively allegedly wrote to Bladoni: ‘if you knew me (in person) longer you’d have a sense of how flirty and yummy the ball busting will play. It’s my love language. Spicy and playfully bold, never with teeth….’. As per his filing, Baldoni also reached out to Reynolds, who married Lively in 2012, on February 28, 2023, asking for his phone number. He said: ‘I asked Blake for your number well over a month ago and have wanted to text you for a while now, but my good ol’ nerves got the best of me’.

That month, Wrexham football club owner Reynolds also allegedly texted Baldoni: ‘I’m excited for you to work together. I’m excited for Blake to crack open her creative piggy bank with someone as dynamic as you. This is gonna be INCREDIBLE. … I happen to adore you, Justin.’. The dynamic between Baldoni and Reynolds seemingly did a 180; however, after Lively accused her co-star of ‘shaming [her] for [her] body and weight’ during filming.

Reynolds allegedly swore at Baldoni after ‘summoning’ him to their New York City penthouse in April 2023. Upon arriving, Baldoni alleges he was met by an ‘aggressive’ Reynolds who said to him: ‘How dare you f***ing ask about my wife’s weight? What’s wrong with you?’.

Baldoni has denied doing as such, claiming in his legal documents that ‘the tone from Reynolds and Lively was so aggressive that [he] felt he had no choice but to offer repeated (and completely unwarranted) apologies’. The heated moment came just weeks after Reynolds reportedly praised Baldoni for initiating what he had hoped would be a strong friendship, calling his first message ‘loving and generous’.

He is believed to have told Baldoni that he and Blake were ‘both looking forward to getting to know [him] and [his] family better’. ‘We’re also big fans over here. Since before we met, and more so after,’ Reynolds wrote. He also said: ‘You’ve been a wonderful collaborator with [sic], and that meant a great deal — to both of us. Being a stand-up person is everything, and you’ve been just that since day one. Thank you.’.

Additionally, the actor allegedly told Baldoni he had ‘hit the backpack’ with Lively as his collaborator and on-screen love interest. ‘She literally passes on every film and filmmaker all the time,’ Reynolds allegedly messaged to Baldoni. ‘But I know one thing — and I speak from a deep wellspring of experience here, having her in your court behind the scenes as a creative is invaluable.’.
