Tony Hudgell has been left delighted by a visit from footballer Harry Maguire after he was rushed to emergency surgery. The 10-year-old, who had his legs amputated after suffering horrific abuse at the hands of his birth parents, was visited by the sports star at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
Posting on Twitter, his mother Paula reflected on a 'tough 48 hours' and said Tony had suffered a hip fracture, spending three and a half hours in emergency surgery. The young boy was then left delighted by a visit from England footballer Harry Maguire, who gifted him a Manchester United poster, pencil case and football.
He appeared to be in good spirits despite spending three hours in the theatre and bandages on his arms, beaming as he posed by his football hero. England footballer Harry, 31, is patron of the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Paula added that she was given a supportive hug by former Olympian Jessica Ennis Hill while Tony was in theatre.
Paula wrote: 'Tony spent 3.5 hours in emergency surgery. Incredible Mr F & team repaired the hip fracture with 2 titanium plates.
