Lloyds and Halifax banking apps down throwing customers into chaos

Banking customers across the country at Lloyds and Halifax "are having issues" with their app plunging them into chaos. More than 400 complaints have been made about the Lloyds banking app, while 300 customers have reported issues with the Halifax app, according to DownDector. The problems were reported at around 7am, and are said to affecting customers. While not officially posting about the outage, Lloyds replied to a customer on X to confirm "some customers are having issues.".
It said: "We know some customers are having issues making or receiving payments. We're sorry for this and are working to have everything back to normal." Of the reported problems with the Lloyds banking app, 64 per cent said they were having issues transferring funds, while 23 per cent said the issue was with online banking. Meanwhile, the remaining 13 per cent confirmed they were struggling with mobile banking.
One Lloyds customer wrote on X: "Not fancy updating us that there’s an error with payments? I’m late to work now thanks" while another said "Sent money over 2 hours to my Lloyds account it’s still not received in my account." A third person wrote: "We are now massively overdrawn as payments have gone out but all our standing orders paying money in haven’t gone arrived - assume you aren’t going to charge us penalties for this when it’s your system that is broken?!!".
Meanwhile, Halifax customers are also reporting similar issues on X. One person said: "I am missing an incoming fast payment which is urgent - what is happening.?" Halifax customer service responded: "We know some customers are having issues making or receiving payments. We're sorry for this & are working to have everything back to normal.". Multiple customers tagged Halifax customer service asking when the app would be back up and running, to which they replied: "We don't currently have a timescale for this. We're working to have everything back to normal as quickly as we can.".
Lloyds have since confirmed the app and banking issues are resolved, it said: "We know some customers had issues receiving payments this morning, but this is back to normal. They should not make the payment again. Our online banking, app and telephone banking have been working as normal all morning. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused.". It comes just days after Barclays Bank issued an apology to its customers following a technical glitch that disrupted services and payments over the weekend. The bank confirmed that the issue has now been resolved, and any payments delayed due to the IT problem have been processed.
Barclays had previously stated that affected customers were seeing outdated balances and their payments were not being displayed. After outrage over the outage, the bank has said: "We are very sorry for any disruption and will ensure that no impacted customer is left out of pocket.". Computer systems at the huge high street bank were crippled for days due to an IT failure, with officials confirming it was not related to a cyber attack. The downtime caused massive inconvenience for customers, disrupting tax returns, bill payments, and other critical services for its millions of customers.
