Beyonce proved that good things come to those who wait at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night as the iconic singer finally picked up the Album Of The Year gong. The star was recognised for her eighth album, Cowboy Carter, having previously been passed over for the ceremony's main prize on four separate occasions. In a special moment, the superstar, 43, was presented the honour by several members of the Los Angeles Fire Department less than a month after blazes broke out across the city.
Jay-Z, 55, was sitting by her side when she won the award and looked full of pride as Beyonce stepped up to the stage to make her speech. Last year, he made his feelings about her not winning very clear, when he lambasted the Recording Academy industry while accepting the 2024 Dr Dre Global Impact Award. In a scathing speech, the rapper ranted that 'even by the Grammys' metrics it doesn't work' for the Texan-born star to keep being snubbed.

Jay-Z began his speech with a light-hearted comment about how his daughter Blue Ivy - who joined him on stage - used to drink from his trophies. He said: 'Blue used to use these as sippy cups but Blue is grown up now, she doesn't use sippy cups. She has her own Grammys.
'First of all, thank you to Dr Dre for setting this up, he said he's in the house somewhere. 'Thank you sir for all the doors that you opened, you showed us that we can be rockstars, obviously you've got Run DMC with the leathers and the Aerosmith, but when you came out west you took it to whole new level. 'You put us on covers, on Rolling Stone, put us around the world, you and Snoop [Dogg], all the records you broke so thank you for this.
'I'm honored to accept it and thank you to the Black Music Collective for all the work you guys do, scholarships for young creatives, and hopefully I'm adding to what you guys are doing out here. 'Obviously it's great to have an award for such an icon. How far we've come with Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince winning their first Grammy in '89 and boycotting because it wasn't televised.
'And then they went to a hotel and watched the Grammys so I don't even understand, it wasn't a great boycott. 'But then '98 I took a page out of their book. I was nominated for Best Rap Album and DMX had dropped two albums that year, they both were number one and he wasn't nominated at all. 'So I boycotted... and I watched the Grammys.'. Last year, Jay-Z made his feelings about her not winning prior very clear last year, when he lambasted the Recording Academy industry while accepting 2024 Dr Dre Global Impact Award.
Beyonce looked in disbelief on Sunday night as Taylor Swift announced her as the winner. Jay-Z then linked these past issues with his frustrations over his wife's consistent snubs for best album awards. 'I'm just saying we want you to get it right,' he said. 'We love y'all. We want you to get it right, at least get it close to right. 'And obviously it's subjective - you don't have to clap at everything - because it's music and it's opinion-based.
'I don't want to embarrass this young lady but she has more Grammys than anyone and never won Album of the Year so even by your own metrics that doesn't work. 'Think about that. The most Grammys, never won Album of the Year. That doesn't work. 'Some of you going to go home tonight and think you've been robbed. Some of you may get robbed, some of you don't belong in the category. When I get nervous, I tell the truth.
'But outside of that, we got to keep showing up — and forget the Grammys for a second, just in life. 'As my daughter sits and stares at me nervous as I am, just in life you got to keep showing up. 'Forget the Grammys, you got to keep showing up until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve. Until they call you champion, until they call you a genius, until they call you the greatest of all time.'.
For Beyonce, it was a full-circle moment as she shook off her Album of the Year curse and lifted the award 15 years after she was first nominated in the category. She was joined on stage by her 13-year-old daughter Blue Ivy at the glitzy ceremony. In a special moment, Beyonce was presented the honour by several members of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Beyonce heeded her own husband's words and released the critically-acclaimed Cowboy Carter earlier this year, which saw her delve into country music to great effect.
She had to beat a strong field to finally get the gong she was looking for, including: André 3000 – New Blue Sun, Sabrina Carpenter – Short n’ Sweet, Charli xcx – Brat, Jacob Collier – Djesse Vol 4, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft, Chappell Roan – The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and Taylor Swift – The Tortured Poets Department. It marked a full-circle moment as she shook off her Album of the Year curse and lifted the award 15 years after she was first nominated in the category for her 2008 project I Am... Sasha Fierce.
