A 14-year-old boy shot a grandma dead in broad daylight after she tried to stop him stealing her daughter's car. Latasha Thomas was gunned down on the street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in front of her eight-year-old grandson on January 19 after chasing down the teenager. Police said they are still looking for least two other people who are thought to have been inside the stolen car at the time. Latasha, who was 48 years old, did not know the boy, who has not been named for legal reasons. He admitted what he had done to his mother upon returning home, and turned himself in to police the same evening.

The grandmother, known to the family as 'Tasha', had been driving home with her grandson O'mari when she spotted the teen driving the stolen car with multiple passengers inside. She called 911, and continued to pursue the vehicle in her own car. But police said the boy then emerged from the car, walked over to vehicle Tasha was in, and shot her dead. One of Tasha's daughters, Kahadijah Woods, told UWK: "My nephew had my mother's blood all over him.".

After the teenager told his mother what he had done, she drove the youngster to a police station, where he turned himself in. They charged him with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. Detectives hunting the other passengers said the stolen car was later recovered, but had been set alight.

In an appeal for witnesses from the local community to come forward, Baton Rouge Police Department Lieutenant L’Jean McKneely said: "The streets know. The streets have the answers that we need. We ask that the community be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem by harboring these individuals that were involved in this crime and assist us in getting evidence to hold those persons that are accountable for this, hold them accountable for their actions.".
