Mystery continues surrounds the final moments of a 17-year-old girl who returned home to collect baked cookies and was found dead in a house fire. The FBI released sketches of three suspects who could have been behind the death of Maggie Long who was killed in a house fire at her family’s ranch in Colorado on December 1, 2017 but it is now a cold case with no answers in sight over what happened.

Maggie had been helping to stage a concert at her Platte Canyon High School for a local Denver rock band, and she had raced home after classes to collect home-baked cookies for the event in Bailey. But she never returned to the school having been caught up in the fire at her home where an investigation suggested it wasn’t a simple accident.

Authorities believe that Maggie returned to the house and found burglars who set the building on fire with her inside. They left with a green safe, a Beretta handgun, an AK-47-style rifle, jade figurines and 2,000 rounds of ammunition, said the FBI. A coroner ruled that Maggie’s death was homicide and police believe that she burned to death as the intruders tried to hide evidence but more than seven years on and nobody has been brought to justice.

Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw, reported CNN, said: “She told her friends she’ll be right back, and she was never seen again. We believe someone knows something that could help solve this case and bring a measure of justice to Maggie’s family and the Bailey community.”.

Just this month the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has reportedly had 415 tips but questions still remain whether Maggie was killed because she saw the robbers. Or maybe it was a hate crime against her Chinese family? The property could have been targeted by robbers thinking that there was money at the house as Maggie’s parents had several successful restaurants. The Longs are Chinese immigrants who moved to Colorado in the late 1980s, said Maggie’s sister Connie.
