At least two people have been killed after a car crashed into shoppers at a Christmas market in Germany with distressing CCTV taken at the scene showing a vehicle mowing down people in the crowded space. The horrific incident unfolded at the market in Magdeburg, central Germany, on Friday evening with unconfirmed reports as many as 11 could have been killed with one victim believed to be a toddler and outlet MDR reporting 70 people were injured 15 of whom were said to be serious. Dozens of emergency workers including police, paramedics and firefighters were seen at the site of the crash.

A police spokesperson said the suspect was a Saudi Arabian man aged in his 50s who had worked as a doctor in Germany for several years and had a legal right to be in the country. A suspected explosive device was found in the vehicle. Local government spokesperson Matthias Schuppe told the broadcaster the incident was an attack.

A video of the arrest showed armed officers pointing their guns toward a a man on the floor before several other police rushed him. The footage showed police yelling at the man on the ground. It's not yet known if the crash is thought to be terror-related. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver was moving the vehicle in a zig-zag pattern and ploughed through people for at least 1,312 feet in total.
