Manchester United have shipped a 17th set piece goal of the calendar year - a new unwanted record for them in the Premier League era. The Red Devils have endured a horror week - backing up their Carabao Cup loss at Tottenham with an embarrassing defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The Cherries have secured a 3-0 success on the red half of Manchester for the second successive season.

It took just 29 minutes for Dean Huijsen to give the Cherries the lead as he headed home from a free-kick in front of the Stretford End. Shipping goals from corners and free-kicks has been all too regular for the United defence over the past 12 months. And the latest one they've conceded has statistically made it the worst year for their backline when it comes to defending set pieces in more than three decades.

Ruben Amorim has been left to deal with another damaging defeat early in his tenure. He recently confirmed that his assistant, Carlos Fernandes, is now in charge of the team's set-piece defending, but clearly major improvements are still required. United were recently beaten at Arsenal - a game that saw the Gunners score both their goals from corners. The Red Devils have been seen lining up and defending corner kicks during warm-ups before games.

Bournemouth's second goal came courtesy of a Justin Kluivert penalty on the hour mark. Two minutes later and Antoine Semenyo notched a third for the south coast outfit. The loss for United means that Amorim has lost three of his opening six Premier League games in charge - two of those reverses coming at home. The Red Devils will sit 13th on Christmas Day as their horrific season continues.
