The Channel 4 documentary about Marilyn Manson, 56 - Marilyn Manson: Unmasked - has aired this week, giving a deeper delve into the alarming allegations against him. The doc is split into three parts, with the final airing tonight, January 16. In the first two episodes, figures from throughout Manson’s life - including fans, his musical collaborators, and his former partner Evan Rachel Wood - have spoken out about what they experienced or witnessed from the controversial American star.
Episode one - Not hiding anything. While some fans may have been shocked by the claims made against Manson - real name Brian Hugh Warner - footage from the rock star’s time on stage shows that he was always dropping troubling hints. Clips from his performances feature Manson shouting out phrases such as “Send some of those little eighth-grader girls up here so I can put my whole arm inside them,” and “Which one of you sixth graders wants me to make you feel like a goddamn eighth grader?” In response to the unsavoury montages, one of Manson’s former collaborators suggested it was to be expected from the star, saying: “If you’re a vegetarian, don’t go to a hamburger shop.”.
Episode one - Treatment of superfans. The documentary features former Manson fan Jennifer Pavao, who became deeply invested in the musician back in the nineties. Pavao recalled Manson setting up a hotline for his most passionate fans at the time, and she, aged around 16, was able to talk to him.
Pavao claims that Manson told her to call him daddy, and added: “One of my lunchboxes he signed, and he wrote, ‘To Jen, you c*m-guzzling gutter-s**t, love Marilyn.’” The former fan also alleged that Manson asked for photos of her, and that communication only stopped once her father learned the extent of it.
