HEADLINES were full of news as TikTok was banned in the U.S. and users were unable to log into the app. TikTok is now back online, but the country’s ban had some unintended consequences on other apps. Marvel Snap was caught in the crossfire of the TikTok ban in the U.S., and players are still unable to log into the game.

When opening the app, players are greeted with the message: “Sorry, Marvel Snap isn’t available right now. “A law banning Marvel Snap has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use Marvel Snap for now. “Rest assured, we’re working to restore our service in the U.S. Please stay tuned!”.

Developer Second Dinner wasn’t informed that the app would be taken down alongside TikTok and has been working to restore the game. The game’s official Twitter account wrote: “This outage is a surprise to us and wasn't planned. Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere.”.

Players of Marvel Snap who have spent hundreds of hours collecting cards and building decks were initially furious that the game was taken offline without warning. However, it appears that the developer was unaware that the game would be made unavailable, and so could not warn players of the ban.

Marvel Snap shares a parent company with TikTok, ByteDance, which is the likely reason why it was taken down along with the video app. ByteDance claims to be in discussion with the U.S. to bring back the apps to its American users. Over the years various companies have tried to ban different websites and apps, and there are often technical issues with doing so.
