'I see dead people' has a whole new meaning for one woman after she was accidentally declared legally dead - despite being very much alive. Nicole Paulino, from Maryland, went to get a new drivers license in November, but was told she wouldn't be able to because she is registered as having passed away.
'It appears that I am deceased,' the mom-of three told NBC4 Washington. Paulino admitted she was a 'little frightened,' by the revelation because, 'I am alive.'. 'I'm here,' she added indignantly. Paulino was later contacted by the Social Security Administration (SSA), who told her that her Social Security number was registered to the person who died, due to a typo.
The mom-of-three said the mistake has impacted both her medical and physical health - with her family's insurance now canceled over the mix up and her medical bills steadily increasing because of it. 'This really, really messes up my life,' Paulino said, adding she's been unable to get her asthma inhaler. 'It has affected me a lot.'.
Nicole Paulino, from Maryland, went to get a new drivers license in November, but was told she wouldn't be able to because she is registered as having passed away. Paulino confirmed she had received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) stating she was a 'deceased taxpayer.'.
She discovered the problem in November 2024 but claimed the government didn't declare her 'alive' until January 14, 2025 after the SSA admitted the mistake was a clerical error. The Social Security Administration insisted that records are 'highly accurate.'.
