Michael van Gerwen has seemingly let slip that rising star Luke Littler is single after all. The 18-year-old has been causing a stir at the oche, having made a name for himself by storming to the PDC World Darts Championship final at just 16 and this year clinching the title at his second attempt. Van Gerwen, 35, knows exactly how good Littler is after losing to him in the final at Alexandra Palace at the start of the month.
He also appears to know what the situation is regarding the Nuke's relationship status. In his first run to the final, Littler was dating Eloise Milburn, until the pair parted ways in July. However, in October, fans thought he may have accidentally revealed a new girlfriend after a female voice was heard in Littler's room while he was streaming with YouTuber Morgan Burtwistle, known as 'Angry Ginge'. Three months later, Van Gerwen has claimed life is easier for Littler than others as he doesn't have the added pressure of a family of his own.
On the eve of their meeting in the Dutch Masters, Van Gerwen told Online Darts: "I think he is a good enough darts player to deal with those circumstances. He's not really thinking about anything yet. He's still at home with his parents, doesn't have kids, doesn't have a girlfriend yet. So, it's an easy life.".
Only Littler himself knows the truth behind Van Gerwen's claims. Darts enthusiasts speculated he might have inadvertently introduced a new partner when the woman's voice was overheard during his live stream with Burtwistle. She was heard saying: "I'm gonna try and get some sleep because I'm so tired.".
