Darts superstar Michael van Gerwen told Luke Littler and Luke Humphries he is still a force to be reckoned with. Despite a disappointing 2024 campaign that has seen him fail to win a single major televised event, Van Gerwen is confident of turning his fortunes around and claiming his fourth PDC World Championship title. A pathway appears to be clearing for him, due to the early exits of several seeded players, with the exit of Gary Anderson in particular stunning darts fans.

Van Gerwen is also on the opposite side of the draw to Humphries and Littler, meaning he would only meet one of them in the final. With the two Lukes dominating the sport in 2024, Van Gerwen has flown under the radar. Yet, the Dutchman who is still the world No.3 according to the PDC Order of Merit, is determined to re-establish himself as the face of darts.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Van Gerwen said: "If you look at my rankings this year, I'm still in the top four or five. Can you imagine when I play well again? I will be really dangerous!". Van Gerwen added: "I've re-signed my contract with Winmau for another 10 years, so I will be on the scene for a little bit longer and I enjoy what I do. That's the only thing that counts.

"If I don't win another two or three world titles, I will be disappointed. But I know I can do it.". With his sights set firmly on the title, Humphries and Littler would do well to take notice of the Dutchman's warning. Van Gerwen is set for a showdown with last year's giant-killer Brendan Dolan in round three, while Littler and Humphries will face Ian White and Nick Kenny, respectively.
