Police burst into a hotel room where a pervert was with a 14-year-old girl, in disturbing bodycam footage released to the public. Officers swooped on the hotel in Manchester after a tip off by a concerned member of staff who reported the schoolgirl was in a room with an 'over-aged man'. The body-worn cameras show the officers arriving and banging on the hotel room door for the man inside to open the door. They then burst in, Manchester Evening News reported.
The 999 call was also shared by Greater Manchester Police, in which the staff member can be heard saying: "We've got two young ladies from a care home who have shown up, reporting there's a man with an underage girl who have managed to gain access to one of our rooms.". "We've confirmed they gained access to the hotel, so there's a 14-year-old girl with an overage man in the hotel and we need the police to come.".
Dressed in a black t-shirt, the male suspect is then escorted outside into the street before being arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child and placed into the back of a police car. The footage has been shared by police after concerning new data emerged revealing how forces have received hundreds of reports of child sexual abuse at hotel chains. Data, published by the BBC , said 504 offences were recorded in hotels in 2023, with 92 per cent involving physical contact with a child and 40 per cent being recorded as rape incidents.
The broadcaster revealed how youngsters were sexually assaulted, raped and molested in the high street chains across the UK. The National Police Chief's Council (NPCC) figures revealed that the majority of locations were budget hotel chains. Phil Ashford, from the NPCC child sexual exploitation taskforce, said: “Once you're behind the hotel bedroom door, there's a degree of privacy perpetrators often don't find elsewhere when they commit abuse. We're talking about some of the most serious contact offending imaginable - the rape and serious sexual abuse of children.".
Under the name Operation Makesafe, hotel staff have been trained to identify signs of sexual exploitation at venues and were told how to report issues to the police. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been recognised as one of the forces leading the way with the implementation of the operation – a national initiative which aims to prevent child sexual exploitation from occurring within the hospitality sector.
Chief Superintendent David Meeney said: “To date, we’ve been able to make significant steps to protect young people in Manchester as a direct result of these training sessions and I would like to thank the local businesses for their commitment in joining our fight against child exploitation. Their support is crucial. “We endeavour to support employees to identify potential victims, ensuring they report it to police so we can effectively safeguard people, improve partnership information sharing, and upskill staff to specifically prevent vulnerable young people from becoming victims in the first place.
“We’re committed to making sure as many people in our communities are aware of the signs of child criminal and sexual exploitation and these case studies highlight the importance of effective partnership working; by having more people alive to the signs of exploitation it means we can effectively safeguard vulnerable people quicker and protect them from harm.”. Cllr Garry Bridges, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "safeguarding children is a priority for the council and its partners and we do that most effectively when the public, businesses and public services work together. Operation Makesafe is a good example of this approach and commitment to bring to justice those who seek to exploit our children".
