A mother has taken drastic action by removing her daughter from a school, accusing staff of allowing the child to wet herself after denying access to the bathroom and then sending her back to class in her soiled pants. The alarming event unfolded on January 24 at the Harmony School of Excellence, where, according to Jaila Burchett's account to ABC 13, a teacher physically prevented her from going to the bathroom.

"She grabbed her arm and went like this," recounted Jaila, demonstrating the blockade that revered her urgent need. Despite protests, she was told restrooms were off-limits during class changes. In sheer distress, Jaila, navigating back to class, took a tumble only to find herself in an embarrassing predicament: "I walked back to class, and on my way there, I fell, and I peed on myself," she disclosed. Humiliated, the 12 year old had no reprieve as her mum, April Smith, revealed that not only did the school neglect to offer replacement clothing but also failed to inform her about the incident.

Capturing Smith’s bewilderment, she shared the text exchange initiated by her distressed daughter: "She's 12. 'Why would you pee on yourself? ' She told me a teacher essentially blocked her from using the restroom, and they didn't have any pants for her, so she needed pants," Smith said. Taking matters into her own hands, Smith contacted the school herself. Smith said she was initially told no employees involved would be disciplined, but the district told ABC 13 that the employees involved in this situation have all been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, reports the Mirror US.

They did not specify how many employees were disciplined. The Harmony Public School District also clarified that the girl was not blocked from using the bathroom, but was told to get a bathroom pass and come back. Smith said the incident left her daughter shaken, she added: "It is just inhumane, so [she] didn't go to school on Monday. I let her decompress all weekend, and on Tuesday, I called the dean back to see what actions were taken.".

he Harmony Public School District also clarified that the girl was not blocked from using the bathroom, but was told to get a bathroom pass and come back. Chief Communication and Marketing Officer John Boyd said: "Unfortunately, an accident occurred before the student was able to do so. We are continuing to look into the unfortunate matter.". However, Smith believes this response is insufficient: "I don't think I would ever trust a school like that anymore," she declared. By Wednesday, Smith had made the decision to pull her child out of the school and is now contemplating legal action.
