When a woman got a bag of Taste The Different parsnips from Sainsbury’s, she didn't expect to find something moving inside the packaging. After buying the vegetables from the supermarket, the British mum went home and popped them in her fridge for a few days. She only realised something was wrong when she went to cook with them. As she made a move to cut open the bag, something inside stirred. To her astonishment, a living toad was nestled among the vegetables.

In a video posted to TikTok, the surprised customer can be heard exclaiming: "I went to cut the bag but something moved and inside I found, oh my God it’s moving, a toad. It’s very much alive. There is an air hole in the bag so it’s managed to stay alive. It must have been very cold in the fridge. Can you please let us know what we should do next? ". The clip has racked up a whopping 1.4 million views and more than 45,600 likes – and also generated more than 1,200 comments. Among the responses, one viewer asked: "Did you buy on self checkout because surely would have been unexpected item in bagging area.".

Suggestions poured in for dealing with the amphibious guest, with one user advising: "As long as they’re UK parsnips just let him out!" Another straight-talking comment simply recommended: "Just let it out in the garden, dispose of the parsnips and get on with your evening.". One user joked "‘Taste the difference. You get what you paid for." And another humorously complained: "Just checked mine and no frog, so disappointed! Where’s my frog!".

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "We’ve reached out to the customer to say how sorry we are for her experience and arranged a refund as well as a gesture of goodwill. We have strict quality control measures in place to prevent this type of thing from happening and are investigating this rare experience with our supplier.". Thankfully, the story has a happy ending. An update video shows the Sainsbury's shopper handing the toad over to Columbines Wildlife Care in Kent, after the creature spent five days chilling in her fridge.
