Music legend Patti Smith reportedly suffered a fall on stage while performing with band Soundwalk Collective in São Paolo, Brazil on Wednesday. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recipient, 78, has collaborated with the experimental sound group on music, and has been touring with them in North and South America. During Wednesday’s performance, Patti is said to have fallen midway through the concert, hitting her head on the stage. She was taken off stage in a wheelchair, but - in a classic Patti move - returned to the gig to perform her 1978 hit song Because the Night.

Soundwalk Collective released a statement on Instagram after the scary moment, reassuring fans that Patti had been suffering from a migraine before her fall, and received medical care after the show. They also confirmed that the 70s legend was ready to perform again tonight. “Thank you, São Paolo, for your beautiful energy and your supportive presence tonight. It’s been a very moving experience for all of us. Thank you for being there,” they wrote.

“Patti has suffered from an intense migraine the past couple days and had some dizziness on stage, but she wanted to be there for all of us and you and perform today. She is now being cared for by the best doctors in the most loving way and will be back on stage tomorrow night.”. They added: “Patti says that she is tremendously grateful for your patience and forgiveness and she sends her love to all who attended. We kindly ask you to refrain from posting at this sensitive moment.” The Teatro Cultura Artística, where Patti performed last night, also shared a statement about the events. They explained that she “felt dizzy on stage during today’s performance,” adding "She is being monitored by top doctors and staff." The venue also described Patti’s incredible return to the stage after her fall as "a very memorable moment for everyone present.".

Patti’s fall came after she was rushed to hospital in December, after she was suddenly taken ill before a scheduled concert at the Teatro Duse in Bologna, Italy. Patti was forced to cancel the gig, and underwent checks at the Maggiore hospital. “With great regret, we inform the kind audience that Patti Smith's concert will not be able to go on stage due to a sudden illness that struck the artist. We are all sorry for the inconvenience caused by this news. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go to the artist,” the venue shared at the time. The American singer-songwriter wisely cancelled other events following soon after the cancelled show, but thankfully recovered after a short period of time in medical care.

The Local Health Authority of Bologna revealed just a day after he admission that she’d been discharged, and added that she was in “good health” after “a short period of observation in emergency,” adding that the medical team hopes to see her resume her tour after “an appropriate period of rest.”.
